MEET THE NEW LEAF TEAM
SCOTT POWELL, FOUNDER Scott grew up in East Dallas, attended Lake Highlands schools and graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas. He came from a family of engineers and has loved designing, creating, and building things since childhood. He started New Leaf in 2006 and has more than 20 years of experience in the industry. Scott’s greatest desire is to design and build high-quality, long-lasting homes that people will appreciate for years to come. “I place the highest value on reputation, ethical standards and relationships with clients, employees, business associates and friends,” he says.
MELISSA POWELL, CO-FOUNDER Melissa has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Dallas and a master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University. She had a private therapy practice before she joined Scott at New Leaf in 2007. Melissa has an eye for design, and, as a mother of four, knows the elements involved in making a home work for a growing family. She loves having direct impact on the neighborhood and surrounding areas that she calls her own by working with each client to help them select or design their own beautiful new home. Building a home is such an intimate process that she and Scott often develop lasting friendships with many of their clients. “To me customer service means making the process easy and stress-free, designing a quality home customized to each family, foreseeing potential issues before they arise, and turning possibilities into perfection,” she says.
BETTY BELL, OFFICE MANAGER Betty is a Garland native who began her career in the construction industry at JCPenney building retail stores. After working for a remodeler in Garland for four years, she started a bookkeeping business for subcontractors. Her clients included architects, structural engineers, general contractors and painters. She loved working for herself, which gave her the flexibility to focus on being a mom while her children were small. For the last 15 years, Betty has worked in commercial facilities management. “I’m super excited to be back in the construction world where I can go above and beyond to serve our customers in any way necessary,” she says.
BRETT DAVIS, VICE PRESIDENT OF DESIGN Brett has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design from Texas A&M University and a master’s of Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles. Brett joined New Leaf in 2014, but has designed houses for New Leaf since 2012. He is a LEED Accredited Professional with the U.S. Green Building Council and has been practicing in Texas and California for more than 12 years and has had the opportunity to work on many different project types, including multifamily residential projects, religious facilities, urban planning projects, retail and commercial spaces, and nearly 100 single family homes. “I strive to anticipate problems, discover possibilities, and search for innovative solutions for clients in unique and creative ways,” he says.
SAMANTHA WESTER, INTERIOR DESIGNER Sam has a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design with a minor in Art from Texas State University. After working for Austin's Laura Britt Design and Top 100 design giant, Staffelbach, she formed Samantha Kate Design & Interiors designing for clients across the Metroplex. She joined New Leaf in 2014, but has worked with the firm as a third-party interior designer since 2011. She is a member of ASID with eight years of interior design and project management experience. “I think great customer service means designing for each client’s unique set of needs and personalities,” she says.
MARIA PATINO, JUNIOR DESIGNER Maria has a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from the University of Texas at Arlington. In her spare time, she loves to design and build, most recently a “Hollywood Regency” back patio that is one in a long line of projects to come. “My program at UT Arlington had a strong foundation in architecture, so I appreciate the challenge of combining aesthetics, structure and practicality to create beautiful, functional, perfectly designed buildings that clients love to call home,” she says.
MICHAEL MARSOLEK, VICE PRESIDENT OF CONSTRUCTION Michael has a bachelor’s degree in Construction Administration and Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. At New Leaf, he oversees all project managers and works directly with clients through the warranty and construction process. He has built more than 500 homes including new custom homes up to $8 million as well as high-rise finish out and commercial warehouses. Prior to joining the New Leaf team, he was president and CEO of a multinational environmental remediation and renewable energy company. He is OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certified. “I do my best to go above and beyond client expectations,” he says. “I want to provide customers with a quality and enjoyable building experience and a superior home—before, during and after the building process.”
BROOKE OMERT, DIRECTOR OF WARRANTY Brooke has an associate’s degree in Business Administration from North Central Texas College. She has 10 years of experience in accounting and business management and is OSHA and CPR certified. Brooke is also a busy mom with four children. She is a creative and enthusiastic member of our team. “My love for design and décor and refinishing furniture make New Leaf the perfect job for me,” she says.
JOSH ANDERSON, PROJECT MANAGER Josh has 23 years of home building experience and is OSHA certified. “I believe great customer service starts before the project begins and continues after the project ends,” he says.
DEAN DRAPER, PROJECT MANAGER Dean played baseball at Northwood University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing Management. He began his construction career working for a flooring company. His meticulous desire for quality work, organizational skills and focus on customer service made him a perfect candidate for home building. Since the 1990s he has worked throughout the Metroplex for reputable builders and has maintained great relations with subcontractors that followed him to New Leaf. “I’m passionate about custom home building and take each step of the process and every obligation personally,” he says.
GREG JEFFERS, PROJECT MANAGER Greg has a bachelor’s degree from Austin College and an MBA from the University of Tulsa. The first home he built in 1985 was for himself, and he has worked full time in the industry since 1986. “I want to give our customers the best service, the greatest attention to detail possible, and the finest product we are capable of delivering,” he says.
